Advising
The Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy believes that faculty members are best qualified to provide curricular, professional and career advisement. In addition to this, MCEE Academic Advisors are available to meet with students regarding general education, general planning and graduation questions. All new students including new from University College students, transfer students, and students changing majors within OU, will initially be advised by MCEE Academic Advisors. The reason for this is to ‘Orient’ the new students into the MCEE, training them on DN, retention policies, university services, enrollment procedures, curriculum offerings, and MCEE Advising procedures.
Freshmen
Students who have earned fewer than 24 credit hours are advised in University College or the OU Scholars office. Once you have completed 24 credit hours, have a GPA of at least 2.0 and have declared a major in the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, you will be automatically moved into the MCEE and your records will be transferred to MCEE Student Services. You will be notified by e-mail when you are transferred to the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy and will be required to set up an appointment with one of our Academic Advisors for an initial degree plan consultation.
Transfer Students
Transfer students are advised by an academic advisor in the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy Student Services Center (SEC N117). You can schedule an appointment by calling (405) 325-4005. If you have not yet completed MATH 1823 or an equivalent course, you must take the Math Assessment Test before you can be advised. This test is administered on a walk in basis in the Assessment and Learning Center and takes approximately 1 hour to complete. You will get your results immediately and should bring them with you to your advising appointment. Information about the test and sample questions are available on their website. You may also contact them at (405) 325-4336 for more information.
Current OU MCEE Students
Current MCEE students are advised each semester by faculty advisors within their major. You must follow the Advising Instructions and contact your School Office to find out the undergraduate advising hours. MCEE Academic Advisors are also available by appointment to discuss general education, general planning and graduation questions.
