Boatswain Bird Island viewed from the coast to the southeast of Spire Beach. Some brown boobies take a break from fishing.

Boatswain Bird Island is the main breeding ground for seabirds (boatswain birds, boobies, frigate birds) since introduced cats decimated the bird population on the main island. In the 1920s guano was briefly mined from Boatswain Bird Island.
