Facilities
The Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy is housed in the Sarkeys Energy Center, a 15 story landmark, located on the corner of Boyd and Jenkins streetson the beautiful campus of the University of Oklahoma.
The College is currently in the midst of an 8.5 million dollar renovation project, which will upgrade the 21 year old facility, to accommodate modern needs for information technology, handicap access, computer and research laboratory facilities. The initial phase, which was completed in fall 2007, includes the creation of two important new student spaces: the Chesapeake Student Services Center and two new student study areas in the east and west atriaof the building. Totaling nearly 5,000 square feet, these areas will be important resources for prospective students and parents, and for current students seeking advice about academic schedules, scholarships, internships and career opportunities. Equipped with wireless internet, these study areas also will provide functional and comfortable study areas designed to give MCEE students a central place to study and work, and also accommodate team learning activities.
Renovation plans also call for significant redesign of the new Van Dyke Plaza of Sarkeys Energy Center. Included in this plans are the creation of two computer laboratories and a designated meeting room, upgrading and replacing equipment in existing labs, and creating new teaching labs.
For the first time, students in the ConocoPhillips School of Geology and Geophysics can look forward to their very own field camp facilities. The University of Oklahoma has completed the purchase of field facilities outside Canyon City, Colo. Building plans will be underway in the near future, with an expected completion date of summer 2010.
