University of Oklahoma Wins 2007 PetroBowl
The University of Oklahoma student team won the 2007 PetroBowl Championship at the International Society of Petroleum Engineers Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition this week in Anaheim, CA.
OU's first victory came in the last 12 seconds of the match after defeating Texas A&M. In the next two wins OU annihilated their opponents, outscoring each of them by 200 points. The last match was a rerun of the Red River Rivalry: OU -vs- UT. The contest was a barn burner but OU came out on top winning 145 to 100.
Sooners Johnathan Ashcraft, Bryce Ballard, Johnathan Gilbert, Chineye Excel Ogugbue and Daniel Tobin were awarded the first place trophy and a $500 scholarship each from EnCana.
The PetroBowl, sponsored by the SPE Gulf Coast Section Young Professionals Program and PetroSkills, is an international competition consisting of 16 student SPE chapter teams from all over the world. Dr. Carl Sondergeld, Associate Dean and Professor in the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy, is the faculty sponsor and coach for the Mewbourne School of Petroleum Engineering SPE student team.
