Planned or Deferred Gifts
Through a planned or deferred gift, donors can reach across the generations to touch the future of OU and its students. A donor may make his or her gift unrestricted so that it can be used in an area where it is needed most, or may designate the gift to benefit a favorite division, school or program within the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy.
Among planned gift options are:
- Bequests
- Charitable Trusts
- Life Insurance
- Retained Life Estate
Planned gifts are as unique as each individual who makes one and may be tailored in a way that best serves the donor's needs, objectives, and wishes, as well as those of the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy. In addition, these important gifts can offer significant tax- and estate-planning benefits for donors.
OU has established a special organization, the George Lynn Cross Heritage Society, to honor donors who have made planned gifts to the University. The Heritage Society is named for Dr. Cross, OU's beloved seventh president, whose many contributions to OU included the establishment of the University of Oklahoma Foundation to serve as the guardian of private gifts.

NOTE: The Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows individuals who will be 70 ½ by December 31, 2007 to transfer up to $100,000 tax free from their Roth or traditional IRA for charitable purposes. Distributions will be tax-free and avoid penalty on early withdrawals.
